A slightly higher proportion of Merlot – around 60% – gives a sweet black-fruited wine with floral and spice notes, a very smooth middle and a long fresh finish.
It is a blend predominantly of Merlot (60%), with varying amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon (30%), Syrah and Petit Verdot (both 5%), all grown in the estate cru vineyards. Following maturation for about 16 months in barrels, 35 – 50 hl oak ovals and ceramic amphorae the individual lots of wine are assembled into the final blend, which is given a further 6 months’ aging in the bottle. Ruit Hora has won acclaim for magisterially exhibiting firm, full structure and complexity, as well as impressive cellarability, classic to sea-facing Bolgheri, yet at the same time offering nonpareil approachability.
