Situated in the prestigious appellation of Montalcino, the Pian delle Querci spans an impressive 50 hectares, 8.5 of which are planted with Sangiovese. Of these 8.5 hectares, six of them are used for Brunello di Montalcino, which is the foundation of the estate’s production. The majority of the estate’s vines are planted on hills and are rooted in clay-loam soils.
Pian delle Querci has a mediterranean yet predominantly dry climate, with rainfall concentrated into the spring and autumn months, mild temperatures, and frequent sea breezes offers the perfect conditions for healthy plant development and ensures the gradual and full growth of grapes.
As nature contributes so decisively to the birth of this great wine, it is then down to the tradition and skill of the wine maker to determine the character of our Brunello.
The careful selection of grapes and the traditional processing that complements the most modern oenological techniques are at the root of this wine’s success. We are proud to highlight the particular attention paid to the environmentally friendly wine growing carried out by the small Pian delle Querci wine company.
In the vineyards, plants are kept low and are pruned down to two buds, to produce low yields of high-quality fruit. In the cellar, all fermentations are carried out with native yeasts in stainless steel vats, followed by aging in 50-hectolitre Slavonian oak barrels.
The resulting wines are aromatic, flavour-packed, and promise to please fans of classical, more ‘old school’ styles.
